Dee Art Work

Dee Copeland

Deanna ‘Dee’ Copeland has been an Art lover all her life.

Dee won first prize in the Blue Mountains Art Competition whilst still at School!

Throughout her teenage years she enjoyed drawing and painting, however later in her life, work and family took over. She married Warwick Copeland in 1968 and they raised and educated four children. After completing a Degree (B.Bus HR/IR) in 1998 and a Masters (Adult Ed) in 2007, she taught part-time at TAFE and wrote curriculum for Strategic HR at NSWTAFE, Ultimo. Dee also lectured and tutored at two Universities for 7 years, and with her husband ran an OHS business for 21 years. Dee always had three main goals in life – to travel, to paint and to write a book!

After tragic loss of her husband in 2011 Dee decided to travel – around Australia, the British Isles and Europe, where she took a sketchpad and immersed herself in the history of the various regions.  Upon retirement she decided it was time to write a book and get serious about painting. Dee moved from Menai to Canberra to be close to her family and revived her passion to paint and write.

Dee had the opportunity to attend a 10-day Art Course in Tuscany, Italy with well-known Sydney Artist Annie Herron and has attended many Art in Action Workshops in NSW, more recently Workshops in Canberra run by ASOC.  She has also exhibited in various Art Exhibitions and sold her works both locally and overseas.

Dee is mainly a landscape artist using acrylic, watercolour, pen, pencil and charcoal mediums. She has also written, published and sold two novels, historical fiction about the life and challenges of an English woman immigrant in outback Australia in the 1940-60’s.

Currently, Dee is an active member of the Artists Society of Canberra and was Secretary for approximately two years. In 2019 Dee was Artist-in-Residence at the Lanyon Estate where she produced 10 beautiful artwork’s exhibited at Dirty Jane’s Fyshwick and the ASOC Spring Exhibition held at the Fitters Workshop, Kingston. She is also a Tour Guide at Lanyon Homestead and enjoys sharing Canberra’s rich heritage. Her works can be viewed on the ACT Historic Places website and also at https://deeartwork.com

Dee held her first solo exhibition at the Kymeema Gallery, Capital Wines in Hall, NSW; which was very successful; she sold 12 artworks.

She is thrilled to be able to present to you ”Now and Then” life before and after COVID! The Exhibition represents original artwork of her travels overseas and locally, mostly painted plein air and later completed at home. The exhibition includes contemporary still life and various pieces that she has endeavoured to produce in an eye-pleasing format. There are also a few prints in the Exhibition at an affordable price.

Dee hopes you will find a painting or two you can connect with and perhaps take home to enjoy…a reminder of this Special Exhibition held at the beautifully located Kyeema Gallery at Capital Wines in Hall, NSW.
